John Zickefoose Obituary

John C. Zickefoose, age 57, passed peacefully at home on February 6, 2026 surrounded by his family. He was born on December 5, 1968, to Paula and Olin Olney and Terry and Mary Jo Zickefoose.

John was a devoted husband to Sunny, the love of his life and his constant companion. Their bond was one of deep loyalty and laughter. Through every season of life, John found his greatest strength and comfort in their partnership.

He was a proud and loving father to Rileigh (Jake) Miller, Dalton (Brooke) Zickefoose, Harlie Spurlock, Starr (Zach) Wade, and Abigail Patterson, and a deeply devoted grandfather to Mason, Myles, Madelyn, Max, and Meryn Miller; Hayden, Hadlee, and Hudson Zickefoose; and Samuel and Lilly Wade. His grandchildren were his joy, and nothing made him prouder than watching them grow, learn, and compete in the activities they loved.

John is survived his brothers Matt (Tina) Zickefoose, Tim Olney, Sam Olney, Wes Olney, and Luke (Randee) Olney, as well as step-brother Jack (Kelly) Whitney and step-sisters Virginia (Doug) Anderson and Cindy Rippeth.

He was a steady presence in the lives of his family — dependable, protective, and always willing to help.

He honorably served his country in the United States Army during Iraqi Freedom, a chapter of his life he carried with quiet pride. John later retired from the Holmes County Highway Department and D&M Rocks, where he was known for his strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to do the hard jobs without complaint.

Outside of work, John found happiness in the simple things — time with his family, attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, and being with those he loved most.

Memorial services will be held 3 p.m. Friday February 20, 2026, at Alexander Funeral Home. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the memorial service at the funeral home.
